St. Médard's Day (june 8)
by maryr • Fri 08 Jun 2012 23:55

St. Médard's Day (June 8) and the day of Saints Gervais and Protais (June 19), have a similar character ascribed to them:

'S'il pleut le jour de Saint Médard,
Il pleut quarante jours plus tard;
S'il pleut le jour de Saint Gervais et de Saint Protais,
Il pleut quarante jours apre's.'

We had a light shower here in La Celle dunoise today - hope that doesn't count with the powers that be!!

Saints are funny things - we have a cross dedicated to St Gervais at a crossroads near here. I have found out a little more info on these prototype weather forcasters.
Saint Gervais and Saint Protase and St Medard
Let's hope there's a little leeway in their predictions!

It's St Barnabas Day today and apparently if it's nice it cancels out the bad St Medard's Day. I don't know how it applies to us here: we have had half a day of torrential rain and half a day of nice warm sunshine. You can't trust these saints, can you?
