Fosse septique

We have just unearthed our fosse septique ready to arrange a inspection by the Powers That Be. A question before they arrive: Is it usual to have what one might call "stuff" floating on top of the water?

In short, yes.

Is the tank 3000litres?
do you have a filter system after the fosse?
does the kitchen waste go into the fosse as well?
do you have 2 vents from the fosse?

If you can answer yes to all those you're safe from imprisonment :-D

Minimum size for a septic tank (fosse septique) is 3000 litres. All installations must conform to DTU64.1 The S.P.A.N.C. technician will verify this. A principle piece is a room without water larger than 7 metres square.

Blaudeix how do you know if you have a filter system after the fosse, I understand why you would need one, but presumably the filter would be buried.

That's a very good question Frankie. One that deserves a long thought out reply.

I'll add to this message at the weekend.
