Long term rental
by laPetite • Fri 17 Sep 2010 15:43
Dear all

We have just been on a very brief house-hunting trip in Limousin, and have had a very exhausting time looking around the area around La Souterraine, looking in both Haute Vienne and La Creuse, to see if we liked the area! We do, but have decided that rather than taking the plunge and ending up in a lovely, but remote property, we'll rent and take our time to see what's available that ticks all, or the majority of the boxes.

Any tips or advice or information on renting long-term? It would be probably starting next April for a few months/a year, preferably edge of small town, or village with boulangerie and postes at least.

Many thanks in advance

There should be properties for rent that fit the bill but you will have to work a bit harder to find them since mostly they are not so well advertised. Long term rentals are, in the main, targeted towards locals rather than international clients.

The rental process is reasonably straight forward although be prepared to supply income details etc. Prices are very reasonable in comparison to most parts of the UK.

Check out the local estate agents in the Directory (some will do rentals) and be prepared to hoof it round the small towns to Maires, notaries and the various immobiliers, each of which may know something for rent. It will help greatly if you know the type of property you want (T1, T2 etc) and have a smallish list of towns that you'd like to be in.

Rentals are also advertised in the local free papers (le 23 etc), which can be picked up at most small supermarkets and local bars.
