Flower ID anyone?
by Creusebear • Mon 22 Aug 2016 13:26

All the hedgerows round here are full of a wide range of wild flowers and plants. One in particular is about 50cms high or more and has purple spears of flowers, does anyone know what its name is?

It could be a lupine (escaped from someone's garden) or a veronica...or perhaps a mint. If you could post a photo, that would help.

I have been searching through my photos but can't find one showing the flower. I don't think it is an escapee as it seems to be very common in the hedgerows around here. Veronica looks a possibility, I am now back in the UK so will have to wait until our next visit - thanks for trying virtdave!

Wild foxglove ? Although all the ones around here seem to have finished flowering.

I think it might be Lythrum Salicaria - Purple Loosestrife, but to be honest, I have confused myself thoroughly by trying to ID it on the web! Looks similar 'tho :-D

Here is one other possibility, though it's usually a bit shorter than 50cm...
