A frame tie rods
by bari • Mon 19 Aug 2013 23:09
I've just started a barn conversion close to Guzon. I need some tie rods made up as I'm taking out the lower cross members to increase head room. Does anyone know of a company in the area that could make these? Has anyone had experience of having tie rods made up? Thanks in advance

We had ours made up by a blacksmith (forgeron, ferronnier). I do not know where Guzon is, so I cannot recommend anyone near to you.

For reference:

1)This documentabout the tirant métallique, prices included.

2)Pobabably our friend translate google will not be able to cope with a text including specific technical language, in French and Dutch. But pictures can be helpfull, so have a quick look at construction techniques old style, la charpente traditionelle, on this Dutch website for the owners of a maison (secondaire) here in France.

If you have a design of what you want we should be able to help.
Minimum size for a septic tank (fosse septique) is 3000 litres. All installations must conform to DTU64.1 The S.P.A.N.C. technician will verify this. A principle piece is a room without water larger than 7 metres square.

The first link given by Robert Arthur shows a tie rod, but I don't like the bride de serrage shown there (page 3).
I'd prefer a Tendeur à vis
