Fosse septique- getting started with a new one
by pili-pala • Wed 11 Jan 2012 19:51

Hello again,
Can anyone tell me if there is a timeframe allocated to you to install a new fosse septique? What I means is when I get the "specialists" here to check the soil, land etc, are you given a timeframe after they have done the checks to have the fosse installed? We need to have a new one put in but I don't want to get the ball rolling too soon if they are going to give me 3 months to sort out a new one.
I hope this makes sense!

Is it "la" or is it "le"?

Assuming you have had the property before the start of 2011 then there is nothing written that gives a timeline. I have permissions in place that are over 2 years old without having started the work (clients choice not mine) so it's fairly safe to say that you can get your permission sorted and do the work when you can afford it.

On the other hand if you brought your property last year then you should have been informed that you have a year to bring it up to standards, which in reality means a new system since the fosse alone is unlikely to be large enough to conform.
What they are going to do if you don't is unclear.

Minimum size for a septic tank (fosse septique) is 3000 litres. All installations must conform to DTU64.1 The S.P.A.N.C. technician will verify this. A principle piece is a room without water larger than 7 metres square.

I signed for the house exactly a year tomorrow, the fosse septique was briefly mentioned at the notaire's during the signing but I have had nothing from the mairie or anyone in writing.
I will be putting in a whole new system in as well as a fosse septique.

Is it "la" or is it "le"?

In that case if you apply they won't (shouldn't) bother you if ever they thought they might :)
