What vaccinations do dogs need for the UK
by Jeanne • Fri 10 Feb 2017 09:01

Since living here I have never taken my dogs back to the UK for a holiday, but this year, as one of them is getting older, I will be taking her with us.

Is it sufficient for them to just have the rabies vaccination up to date and to have the flea/tick treatment just before they go?

Thanks. I am being lazy as I know I can probably search for this online but thought this was easier as I have a lot to do. :-D :-D

The short answer is no that is not enough. You need tapeworm treatment and a Pet Passport that correctly details all the vaccinations and tests that are required. See the link below for details of all the requirements:

You must have your vet sign and date the pet passport after administering the worm treatment, between 1 and 5 days before entry into the UK. Make sure the signature is dated and has the time of signing. I have witnessed several panicking pet owners at Calais with incorrect details trying frantically to get an appointment with a local vet.

Thanks. I did not realise it was worm treatment that they needed.
