Despite the été pourri, this is an excellent year for plums. We gathered a bunch this morning, and cobbled up this plum/almond tart:

That looks really delicious and I think we might try something similar, only with pears, because we have a lot of those and no plums. It might be nice to use chestnuts rather than almonds since these are in season but I don't seem to have a trick making a paste with fresh ones.
