demijohns

Does anyone know where I can buy demijohns, for winemaking? Mine are all full, and I could do with some extras for racking (plus the damsons are about ready to pick). I was sure I had seen some somewhere, but have drawn blank in Intermarche and most brico places. There are some huge flasks around covered in plastic, but v expensive, and I am always wary of putting too many eggs in one basket in case something goes awry.

I bought a large plastic one at the Briconautes in Aubusson some time ago....large enough for the 16 bottles of elderflower wine I concoct every spring...

do what I do, buy 5litres of spring water from the supermarket and use the water for the wine then when ready all you have to do is bore a hole in the cap for the bung and airlock, cheap and easy.
Learnt this from a Greek wine producer years ago.

they are easy to carry and transport with very little chance of breaking.

What a brilliant idea, and so simple. Thank you. I was already being teased by the hamlet cos of the vin en vrac at the mechoui that said it was "eau demineralisee", and this is the obvious way forward. Onwards to damson wine.

when you use bottled water you get a nice clear wine, never cloudy like you get from tap water.
Back in the UK I was making wine at less than 75pence a liter.
