How do you stop your potatoes going green?
by edmoraz • Thu 14 Apr 2011 17:22

No matter what I do and where I store them my potatoes go green within days of buying them. I have tried to store them in the dark but this just makes them chit.

try storing them in the fridge, unwashed until you use them, in a paper bag or cardboard box.

On a general note, I read recently that for storage tips for fresh food one should copy what happens in supermarkets. They will certainly want to keep their goods in the best condition.

It is sunlight that turns the potato's green (so a potato farmer once told me). They are best stored in a cool, dry and dark place.

Thanks for the tips, will try the darkness/green apple technique. If that fails into the fridge they go.
