Tell us something we don't know about Creuse.

Go on I dare you!

Fine, I'll start. The commune with the fewest inhabitants is 23034 Brousse with only 27 people.

The island of Réunion, which has a twinning group in Guéret is roughly the same shape as Creuse and oriented similarly on the globe.

The population of Creuse has fallen every year since 1886 and is now (c.121,000) about half of what it was in 1791.

In 1886 Bourganeuf ville lumière, located in a remote part of Creuse, became somewhat improbably the third town in France to receive a public electricity supply.

The Creuse (river) has 10 main tributaries as follows....
Left bank: Beauze, Sédelle, Gartempe
Right bank: Rozeille, Petite Creuse, Bouzanne, Bouzanteuil, Suin, Claise, Esves

There are six hydroelectric dams on the Creuse. Three are in the Creuse département with one at Chambon-Sainte-Croix above Anzeme, one at Les Chezelles near Le Bourg-d'Hem and one at L'Âge upstream of La Celle-Dunoise. The remaining three are in the Indre including the Éguzon dam which was opened in 1926 and was, at the time, the largest dam in Europe.

Legend has it that George Sands was responsible for introducing couscous into France!

I not sure that George Sands is strongly linked to Creuse but rather to Indre (36) although that is interesting about couscous.

The only motorway (autoroute) in Creuse is the A20 which briefly crosses the north-west corner of the department for 4km but there are no junctions on this stretch.
