To date there are 30 gardens listed on the associated website: http://www.opengardens.eu and I understand that more are be...

Re: holiday home/permanent home

by Annik • Sat 31 May 2014 11:02

We have had our second home here for 20 years and have never come across any prejudice against second home owners....

Re: Opening a bank account

We have been with Credit Agricole for years, at the Chenerailles brancvh, and find them very good. We also had an account with Societe Generale in Gueret but we closed it.

Re: birds and spring

by Annik • Tue 22 Apr 2014 23:52

We have wonderful nightingales here but the sweet little wood where they sing has been grubbed up over the past few weeks as part of a move to make the local fields bigger and more user-friendly for big agricultural vehicles. We very much hope they will find a new perch for their magical nightly ser...

Re: Show us your Veggie Patch

by Annik • Mon 21 Apr 2014 16:34

Wow, Dave, what an immaculate veggie patch! Ours is much too big and we have only cleared it roughly to date. The rotovating will start soon. We have tried an experiment with covering part of it in black plastic agricultural sheeting during the winter, to see if it keeps the weeds down. Now all we n...

Re: French drivers omg !

by Annik • Mon 07 Apr 2014 20:52

Looks like there are some real places to avoid there, especially Albania: and I thought France, Greece and Malta were bad. Actually, I think French drivers have improved a bit over the years, but they all think they are immortal. The straight and hilly non-dual carriageway N145 in the olden days was...

Ets Gadeix builders' merchants at Gouzon are very good. It is a family business and the chap is extremely helpful. He once came specially in the early evening, several days earlier than promised, to deliver some sand for us – in the days before we stayed at the house for any long stretches – because...
