Prices for barns

by Annik • Tue 14 Jul 2015 23:41

A completely unrenovated stone barn about 50 yards away has just come up for sale via a Dutch private seller, who we know only used it to store his caravan and can't have paid much for it. He hasn't done anything to improve it in the years he's owned it. Indeed we have only seen him and his family t...

Re: Constructing greenhouse

by Annik • Tue 02 Jun 2015 14:59

That's interesting! We actually got the greenhouse kit last year but it took so long to arrive after being ordered that it was midsummer and we didn't need it! Other priorities intervened and we didn't get round to erecting it until just now. We told the maire, and gave her a sketch plan of the gard...

Constructing greenhouse

by Annik • Sun 31 May 2015 18:19

We have the misfortune to be constructing a greenhouse whose original presumably Chinese instructions have been "translated" into English, French, German and Italian. Fortunately the engineering drawings are fairly helpful. However we now want to install the polycarbonate panes of "glass". As delive...

Re: Burying a cable

by Annik • Sat 30 May 2015 20:37

That's fantastic, thank you so much. The cable won't go anywhere near a road or public space, it just runs about ten metres from the back of the barn to the greenhouse, underneath the lawn.

We are indebted to you! My husband is a stickler for following the regulations and he couldn't find any.

Burying a cable

by Annik • Sat 30 May 2015 17:59

We want to run a length of cable carrying a mains electrical supply underground from the barn to our new greenhouse. My OH can find the regulations on the internet for doing this in England but not in France. It will obviously be in all the appropriate ducting etc - but how deep, and at what depth d...

Re: Headlight conversion

Thanks very much for the suggestion. We have just tried and sadly it didn't work. I think Ford want you to go to the dealership and give them lots of dosh...! But we will carry on experimenting.

Headlight conversion

by Annik • Sun 05 Apr 2015 13:42

We have recently bought a two-year-old Ford Galaxy 1.6 Titanium X, expecting that we would be able to do something to the headlights to enable us to drive on the right in France without dazzling oncoming vehicles. Our previous Galaxy required some artfully placed black masking bits on the headlights...

Re: France veers rightward

by Annik • Sun 05 Apr 2015 13:31

I think it's concerning that the Front National took second place in most of the elections held in the communes in our constituency for a place on the Creuse conseil . However the FN was a long way behind the chap who won, who is a well-known and respected politician of the moderate centre Right. I ...

Don't go anywhere near Aubusson. The people in Gueret are really helpful but Aubusson has a terrible reputation.

Re: Any cheap property for sale.

There's a falling-down two-roomed house in what I take to be your village of Lafat for sale for 12,412 €. You may even know the one. The two end sections are intact but the roof has fallen in, in the middle. Seems to be on a chemin somewhere from the photos. It's for sale through http://www.french-p...
