Je suis trop fatiguer pour faire mes exercices de calcul.

Re: Book Recommendation - La Creuse ... à pied

by Dave • Sun 21 Jan 2018 21:58

As requested here is a list of the walks we really liked and would look to walk again (the numbers are the route number in the book): 1 Le sentier des Peintres. This is a short 3.5 km walk around Crozant. You can visit the ruins afterwards and there is a stretch alongside a river. 1.jpg 4 Terre de t...

Re: What do you know (about Creuse)?

by Dave • Mon 08 Jan 2018 12:08

The only motorway (autoroute) in Creuse is the A20 which briefly crosses the north-west corner of the department for 4km but there are no junctions on this stretch.

Re: Did you ever swim in any Creusois lakes or rivers?

by Dave • Fri 05 Jan 2018 11:07

I've swum in several of the larger lakes (including a bit of wild swimming) and last year I swam in La Creuse for the first time.

I really enjoy it although I tend to go out of season when it is less crowded and not that often. Lac de la Vaud-Gelade is still my favourite.

Did you ever swim in any Creusois lakes or rivers?

by Dave • Fri 05 Jan 2018 11:01

Outdoor swimming is a pretty common summer activity in Creuse, with many lakes and rivers having official swimming areas. Have you ever done it?

Tell us where and what you thought of it.

Brunet Prudhomme in Bonnat has a small showroom with several burners and a bunch of catalogues. he and his wife are very helpful and I recommend them. 16 Route de Guéret, Bonnat (05 55 62 14 97) There are also a few stoves on display in most large DIY stores (Mr. Bricolage and Brico Marche for examp...

I wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year. :D

I hope that you all find time to do something new in Creuse this year and if you do, don't forget to drop by and tell us about it - Creuse is such a fabulous place that it deserves to be known more.

I did try but I was miles away
The same for me. Now that I read the answers it looks a lot easier, but I didn't get far on my own because I didn't realise that it was phonic. :-?

Re: Restaurant recommendations for lunch

by Dave • Mon 04 Dec 2017 10:12

I'd recommend the restaurant Des Artistes at Fresselines and also the Cafe Central on the main square in Guéret (with Le grand Cafe as a backup in case it is full although this isn't as good). I'd also highly recommend the Auberge des Voyageurs at Châtelus-Malvaleix. None of these is very close to P...

Re: New Rubbish and Recycling Bins

by Dave • Wed 08 Nov 2017 09:18

That's the idea, but I expect it won't save you very much, since there is still a standing charge and the recycling to be emptied anyway. tbh it all seems like a bit of a faff and something that will encourage fly tipping. The cost of giving everyone two new bins and the systems to manage them will ...

Re: Poisson Rouge

by Dave • Wed 08 Nov 2017 09:13

haha, well the 6 original fish were only €1 each retail including a carry home bag, so I doubt I could get rich. We have thought of transferring some to another pond, and we'd be happy to give some of the smaller one's away. They have all cleared the pond of algae and are pretty cool to watch. I onl...

Poisson Rouge

by Dave • Tue 07 Nov 2017 14:09

About 9 months ago I bought 6 small (2 cm long) goldfish ( poisson rouge ) from the local Bricomarche. They came home together in a single small plastic bag along with a tub of fish food. I thought that it'd add some life to our pond and help keep the algae at bay a bit. Now we think we have somewhe...

Re: Book Recommendation - La Creuse ... à pied

by Dave • Tue 07 Nov 2017 11:18

Well after more than a decade since we did our first walk in the book, a couple of weeks ago we finally completed all 50 walks! We had a number of years off in the middle when we didn't do any and we, typically, left most of the long and most distant walks until last. Creuse is a big department and ...

New Rubbish and Recycling Bins

by Dave • Tue 07 Nov 2017 10:59

Creuse has been chosen as part of a trail of a new rubbish and recycling system. This was supposed to be introduced in time to start in the New Year but it seems to have been delayed a bit. They were going to stop collecting rubbish from the old bins from 01 January 2018 but I don't think that is li...

Re: visas

by Dave • Mon 06 Nov 2017 10:16

I'm glad that you got home to the USA OK. A small fine and a ticking off doesn't seem too bad if that's all it is. If you overstay a visa waiver in the USA it's taken much more seriously - arrest and fine and you aren't able to use it again ever so must always pre-apply for a visa in the future, whi...

Re: hornet question

by Dave • Tue 03 Oct 2017 13:31

Ah, I didn't think that you'd be able to use a regular wasp trap. I might try that in the Spring, although tbh providing they don't nest in the buildings, I've no real problem with them.

Re: hornet question

What sort of trap can you use to trap the Queen?

We have hornets nesting in outbuilding from time to time and have to destroy a nest now and then but normally hornets are docile and don't really bother us so we let them alone.

Re: Excellent concert near Vallière

by Dave • Sun 01 Oct 2017 10:28

There are a number of concert programmes with events in Creuse (and nearby) both classical and more modern (folk, jazz and blues being the more common). These never seem to be that well advertised though and I tend to only find out about them by accident, usually by going for a coffee somewhere are ...
