Cannabis in a field near you?

by Dave • Wed 20 Nov 2019 12:51

A couple of years ago the president of the community of communes of the Grand Guéret, Eric Correia suggested that farmers in the Creuse to grow cannabis for therapeutic purposes. SBxrnEyNegM I doubt that it'll be grown outside but it could mean a variety of new jobs including some in STEM. This repo...

Re: Solar panels in France: a steeplechase

by Dave • Mon 18 Nov 2019 12:29

We are lucky enough to have a large unobstructed south facing roof and I've been thinking of installing both PV and thermal solar panels for a while. I've been largely put off by the complexity of the paperwork (and I'm not even sure if I'd be allowed to install things myself) and also by the enviro...

BLS in Guéret or Aubusson will hire you a fork-lift although you might like to talk to a local nearby farmer who might be willing to help you out.

Les Pierres Jaumâtres

by Dave • Fri 15 Nov 2019 10:33

lpj-map.jpg Location on Google Maps Les Pierres Jaumâtres near Toulx-Sainte-Croix (591m). « They’re awesome! » said a young American girl who was cantering about on them during one of our visits. The view was also awesome, and her shoes, her lunch and for all I know everything she’d ever seen. Cool...

Re: Main supply: more power or a system of load shedding (délestage)

by Dave • Thu 14 Nov 2019 17:56

We use this system on our set-up. The heating circuits will be switched off when the load is becoming close to maximum to ensure that the rest stay on, switching back when the load is reduced. Since this would be very rare requiring all heaters on full blast, the water heater and something like an e...

There is now another chance to vote away Brexit, all be it a super slim one, by voting for a party that has said they will stop the whole process and stay in the EU if they win. Honestly I think that it's unlikely these parties will win, even in coalition and they might not even stop it all if they ...

Another Delay

by Dave • Mon 28 Oct 2019 18:49

Wow, it's looks like the UK might still be in the EU in 2020 having been granted another extension until the end of January. I guess it's still all pretty grim longer term but with No Deal off the table and another extension in the bag that's not a bad Christmas present anyway. :)

Yes and Wales are out so Eng vs RSA. Too many kicks in the last game and it's a shame for Wales to go out. Should be a good final.

Le Puy de Gaudy

by Dave • Thu 24 Oct 2019 15:24

puy-de-gaudy-map.jpg Location on Google Maps Puy de Gaudy, near Guéret (651m), was one of my first discoveries in Creuse. There’s a horse-riding centre on the hill nearby that I used to go to. Not to ride but to sit and wait outside. I suppose it’s a nice enough spot to sit but the view of stable y...

Re: Cèpe season

by Dave • Wed 23 Oct 2019 09:18

Lovely. I like to slice them up and cook them in butter in a small saucepan (with the lid on). I normally add a sliced clove of garlic, a few freshly picked rosemary leaves, a shake of soya sauce and a few drops of Worcestershire sauce. These help to bring out the umami flavour for me. Just cook for...

Re: Rugby World Cup 2019

I think the correct semi-final teams have emerged. France just threw it away with their usual lack of sportsmanship, even if it was by only one player. I don't know, I think that Wales were a bit lucky and that France really should have won. It'd be nice if it was and England - Wales final but I ex...

I thought this was worthy of it's own topic so I split it out. Interesting stuff. I've visited La Courtine a few times over the years as there is some good off road driving nearby and also there was a really nice restaurant on the way into town from Felletin (but it's been a while so I don't know if...

England are though to the semi finals.

Sadly Wales have knocked out France in their quarter final but at least I won't have the stress of who to cheer for in an England - France match.

Rugby World Cup 2019

by Dave • Fri 18 Oct 2019 15:24

Is anyone following the Rugby World cup this year? Who are you supporting?

Both England and France are in the quarter finals and if they both win that and their semi finals they could face off in the Final.
