Re: Speeding fines and points

by Dave • Fri 05 Apr 2019 09:53

I've not heard of anyone getting the points on their UK license, although they have paid the fines (since they live here and drive a French registered car). Unless you've been very reckless I doubt they have the resources to chase UK based folks for speeding fines and I expect that's even less likel...

Re: Travelling after Brexit

by Dave • Wed 03 Apr 2019 12:14

That's a sad thought but thankfully the twinning thing isn't an EU thing. It's possible that twinning with the UK will become even more popular when it's out since that might make it seem more exotic (or just open to a larger twinning budget haha).

Revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU

by Dave • Fri 22 Mar 2019 10:36

I know. I know. You've all had enough of Brexit and inability of people in charge to actually commit to anything. Me too. There is a government petition that is gaining traction about just cancelling Bexit and staying in. You can sign it here:- Revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU I doubt it'll me...

Re: Mystery Word....

I think he is saying impeccable. Which is impeccable in English, but in this context it is used like "great" or "outstanding" - a positive filler word.

Creuse in 1959

by Dave • Fri 28 Dec 2018 13:55

Here is a short video from YouTube showing Creuse in 1959. There are a lot of recognisable places and although you can see some changes it's very similar

(it's better with the sound off IMO but each to their own).

Haha, I enjoyed that.

I didn't think that you could view stuff on FB without an account; I guess things have changed.

Re: gilets jaunes

by Dave • Tue 04 Dec 2018 10:14

Nice to see worldwide coverage of the department, but The cafe in the main square is empty by midafternoon. The hulks of burned-out cars dot the moribund train station’s tiny parking lot, abandoned by citizens too poor to maintain them. that doesn't sound like the Guéret I know. It's a bit run down ...

Re: VO Films - Le Senechal or elsewhere 'en Creuse'

by Dave • Fri 23 Nov 2018 09:38

Le Senechal seems to show a number of VO film (although not always in English) although these aren't normally block-busters. iirc there used to be a mobile cinema that went from town to town and also that English language films were sometimes shown in places like Bourganeuf, but it's been sometime s...

Re: Tax Habitation and Foncier

by Dave • Wed 21 Nov 2018 18:44

Mine has gone up about 2.5% which is pretty much normal.

It should show you on the back page which part has increased, but 300% is a lot unless you had a reduction applied before (because the place was considered a ruin for example).

Re: Late Cranes

by Dave • Thu 15 Nov 2018 17:11

I noticed a bunch a week or so ago and we heard some after that but didn't see them in the clouds. I am not sure exactly when they come and go, but I always like hearing them and stop to watch the V go by. We also had a couple of large flocks of smaller birds. They were all silent except for their w...
