They can probably tell you at the Mairie if no one on here knows the answer.

Amazing moles

by dissid32 • Thu 22 Mar 2012 08:13

I have just recently cleared the numerous molehills that were made in the, what might laughingly be called lawn, in front of the house. It's only about 15m x 10m, but I collected three barrowloads of soil. I find it rather amazing to think that the mole shifted all that soil through its tunnels with...

Re: Driving Licenses - GB70

by dissid32 • Sat 17 Mar 2012 08:31

I think the answer is more or less everywhere, but there are some countries, I believe, that require you to have a licence for that country. For instance when I was in Saudi Arabia one had to get a Saudi licence, which I believe involved paying quite a lot of money and also giving blood, for some re...

Re: Brocantes in the Creuse

by dissid32 • Tue 13 Mar 2012 09:09

You could try Arfeuille Antiques if you're passing that way. They have some quite nice things, although I don't know how they are price wise. Run by an english couple. If you look them up on Google they give a map. And as Annik says there are the vide grenier/brocante fairs in the summer.

Re: Sweet little film

by dissid32 • Fri 02 Mar 2012 19:54

Trust me to spell it wrongly. I thought there was an "h" in there, and then I changed my mind. Thanks for identifying it as Nîmes, Virtdave. Looks very nice in the film, but I expect it'll be swarming with tourists nowadays.

33 views but no replies, so perhaps other people didn't like it as much as I did. Does anybody recognise which ampitheatre it is? Could it be Orange?

Decaf tea

by dissid32 • Mon 23 Jan 2012 11:15

Just a quick question: has anyone seen decaf tea in any of the shops? If so, where?

Re: Phone ceased working

by dissid32 • Mon 21 Nov 2011 19:11

Well, the new phone arrived Saturday from Amazon. Charged it overnight. Tried it Sunday morning and it was as dead as the old one. This morning phoned Orange, who checked the line, and they say a fault at the exchange, and will be fixed by Wednesday. I guess the moral of that little story is: don't ...

Re: Phone ceased working

by dissid32 • Thu 17 Nov 2011 21:09

Thank you Robert and Lestroisours for your advice. I did try taking out the filter and plugging directly into the phone socket, but it made no difference. I also tried looking for a box which might contain a capicitor, but without success. I think when they installed the phone they put in two socket...

Robert
I think it's what you call classic landline plus internet via ADSL filter. The phone line definitely plugs into a filter.
Thank you

Phone ceased working

by dissid32 • Tue 15 Nov 2011 18:24

My phone seems to have stopped working, but the internet connection still seems fine, thankfully. Does this indicate that the handset has conked-out? It just seems completely dead, and when I ring it from my mobile, not a squeak.

Re: Water Penetration

by dissid32 • Thu 01 Sep 2011 09:26

I've been thinking a little bit more about your problem, and also about Aubusson. I know there are lots of steep hills there, virtually cliffs in some places, and lots of houses built into the side of the hills. I think quite often the entrance to the house is from the road at the top story level. A...

Re: Water Penetration

by dissid32 • Wed 31 Aug 2011 20:08

Personally speaking, and although I'm no expert, I think you could have a big problem with this. The water pressure over two stories in height must be quite considerable. Have you recently bought the house? And are there signs that the water penetration has been going on for a long time? In theory t...
