Re: reinforcement of my preference for Creuse

Vandalism does not seem to be that widespread in many régions of France. Would be interesting for a head for head comparison to some other countries.

Re: France veers rightward

by Jeanne • Tue 31 Mar 2015 20:32

Pretty much all the French I know want Hollande out, including ourselves and to get a President who can actually get people working and out of the crisis that is still hanging around here. I think it was fairly predictable that they would turn to the right, its the same in the UK. If you don't get a...

Re: Recommendations please for a bilingual accountant

by Jeanne • Tue 24 Mar 2015 09:01

Perhaps I should explain. In the UK the accountant always knew how to save you money and kept everythiing at a minimum but in France you have to find things out for yourself. They do not try to save you money, they just do the accounting if that makes sense. But yes, Villeneuve is very good and we c...

Re: Recommendations please for a bilingual accountant

Not sure there is such a thing as a good accountant in France as they all work for the government and not for you. SCP Dagniau Villeneuve at Boussac speaks some English and is as good as they get. You do not have to register as a resident because you are from the EU. Have you now got a job in France...

We have done that because the rooms were small upstairs. Does obviously take a lot longer as we have done it right to the top for high ceilings too.

Re: De combien avez-vous besoin pour vivre ?

by Jeanne • Sun 08 Mar 2015 08:35

Where do you shop? I am sure I have seen them at Intermarché at La Châtre or Super U. I don't remember seeing them at Guéret though. I am pretty certain you could get them at Montluçon at the huge place facing Auchan whose name escapes me. Dépends on how far you want to travel for them

Re: Snow due this week?

by Jeanne • Thu 22 Jan 2015 13:55

The forecast has been changing daily. Early in the week it did say small chutes de neige but it dépends a lot on the altitude. It certainly has tried a few times but fortunately unsuccessful as of yet in our part of the Creuse. Seems there is some due on and off for the next week. Hoping it stays aw...

Re: French for the Franglophone

by Jeanne • Fri 16 Jan 2015 19:00

I find the site Duolingo.com very good as a learning tool. I use it as a back up more than anything but I found I learnt most from listening to radio and watching TV in French and going to conversation groups with French people. I did join local associations but the biggest problem is always the pol...

The guy in Dijon had psychiatric problems according to the French news here today and was not a terrorist. So it could have happened anywhere.

Probably find it is done via the Mairie but the people are EBL in Guéret. Could always ask your estate agent if you had one to do you a favour and phone for you. Phones are not the easiest if you can't speak reasonable French.

There is no shortage of good quality fosse installers in this region. RSW and Chris Godson are well established and reliable and know their stuff.

Re: fosse septique

by Jeanne • Fri 19 Dec 2014 20:51

It dépends on the amount of land you have, the type of ground, whether you need a pump; size you need for the house. Depending on that it varies anywhere between 5000 and 15000. If you have granite Under there, good luck in digging :)

Re: What have you learnt?

For eighteen months I was secretary of a local association (I didn't volunteer, you understand, it was wished on me out of the blue at the AGM) but I got so exasperated and also frustrated by the fact that in the land of Liberté, egalité et fraternité , democracy did not seem to exist at all that I...

The most professional and experienced in this area I have found to be Nick Jackson 05 55 62 19 70. He is always very busy. He is in area 23220. And I would definitely advise against using pine having had a chimney fire caused by pine. Its scary how it burns for up to 24 hours after you have scooped ...

Re: new power to building

Hi Wynne Rob has given you good info above but you can never have enough so here goes:- As it is a new supply you will have to get the installation certified by CONSUEL before EDF will connect you permanently. You can get a temporary supply which will normally be 6kW (30A) max until such time as you...
