Near Gueret we were hardly affected. Hardly any rain, bit of thunder and lightning and that was it.

I get the most sadistic pleasure out of picking them off and putting them in an ashtray and making them explode

Thanks, yes, two of the three are Huge Dog size. My third dog adopted us this year and is a small pointer size.

So, I can't avoid the cost. Hopefully once it is kept short they may stay away. Just hate the little buggers.

This is a nice forum

by Jeanne • Thu 01 Jul 2010 12:40

Having only recently signed up on here and finding it quite by accident, I thought I would say how pleasant it is. I have stopped visiting Total France because of the comments that people make about posts which go from sarcasm to extreme nastiness. I had a PM from a lady who was quite upset by them ...

Re: ticks!

The English shop at Aubusson I have found to do the best price for Frontline Combo. Does anyone know if there is any way of treating the terrain to get rid of them? Reason I ask is that we have just bought a renovation and took the dogs yesterday and they only went in a really tiny part because they...

Re: Creuse, now and then

by Jeanne • Wed 30 Jun 2010 16:38

I don't think we have changed it. Most of us have only bought smallholdings and we still use them for keeping animals and growing vegetables. We have stopped the decay of some buildings and kept people in jobs (providing people don't buy everything in the UK!). I know several farmers here who are Br...

We have found the pharmacies have been cheapest here for Frontline Combo. It is better if you don't constantly use the same product. There are other ones such as Prac-Tic. Another one is Advantix. If you don't have cats there is a scalibor collar you can get which deters them from getting on them in...

Re: Friday 25 June Auberge de Chene Vert Music Club Crevant

by Jeanne • Wed 23 Jun 2010 10:52

Actually it is in the Indre but we tend to travel quite a way to find decent nights out. Some travel from Bourganeuf! From Chenerailles you would need to go: Cressat, Jarnages, Ladapeyre, Chatelus Malvaleix, Genouillac, Moutier Malcard, St Severe sur Indre and finally you get to Crevant. There is a ...

Re: Learning French in Creuse!

by Jeanne • Wed 23 Jun 2010 06:52

I have two French lessons a week but they end for the summer break at the beginning of July. I can't afford private lessons and wondered if there were any group lessons anywhere between Boussac and Gueret that may continue during the summer period?

Music Club in Crevant (36)

by Jeanne • Wed 23 Jun 2010 06:43

We go each month to this club at Crevant. It takes place on the last Friday of the month and has a good mix of English, French and Dutch musicians. You never know who, as it depends on who turns up - French usually after 10pm :) It has been going now for over 3 years and music varies from heavy rock...

Re: Rogue Builders [rant]!

by Jeanne • Tue 22 Jun 2010 21:46

I think one of the main problems is that there are insufficient requirements to register as a builder. A letter saying that they have been one for 3 years is not even checked on. I know qualifications are not a sign of knowledge but I think a test or something would be the right way to go. As an ele...

EBL Gueret - do they have someone who speaks some English

by Jeanne • Tue 22 Jun 2010 21:36

I have to phone EBL up to get my water connected at our new house. There are pipes, just no meter. I plan to use my "just about intermediate" French but was wondering if I get stuck whether anyone knows if they have somebody there to help me out? If that fails then I will call on my French friend to...
