by cmchsmjm • Wed 03 Aug 2016 08:30

Hello all, We are interested (desperate) to have Internet access and tv at our house and have seen some great deals in town. As in the UK, do we need to have a telephone line installed before we can apply for the Internet combos or is this all part of the deal? We have a telephone line going into th...

He would chop, prep, season then build. Most of his furniture and structural work is done this way. All very clever and way beyond my skill set!!!!

Cost of an Oak tree

by cmchsmjm • Sat 09 Jul 2016 17:54

Hello good people, my brother would like to make a porch for our house and has suggested asking our neighbour (farmer, owns 65 hectares of woodland and grazing land) if he would sell us an oak tree! My furniture making brother would then do the necessaries with the said tree and turn it into a lovel...

Re: SPANC inspection

by cmchsmjm • Tue 13 Oct 2015 20:08

Well, we've been 'SPANC'd Wasn't as bad as I thought, the inspector was lovely and pleasant. It did, however, take her about 30 minutes to find the septic tank as I didn't have a clue where it was! Although it wasn't up to code we don't have to replace it unless we sell the house as we bought our ba...

Re: SPANC inspection

by cmchsmjm • Fri 21 Aug 2015 13:20

I will most likely try and get the inspector over when I am at the house for a week in Sept/Oct and see what happens. We can't ignore that fact that we need a new fosse to keep in line with current regs but as the fine is (relatively) small we will probably pay that until we are in a position to pro...

Interesting Robjelves...thanks.I may have to chance a fine to give me some financial breathing room as there are more (from my perspective) pressing things to spend money on at the house.

Thanks for the advice rictel and freezerbill. I was wondering what would happen if I couldn't make it back before the December deadline...might be worth telling them I won't be back until next year and see what happens!

We have had the house for 5½ years.
When I got back to the UK on Monday there was a letter for me from a company called évolis 23 would claim they have been appointed by our Commune to carry out the inspections.

SPANC inspection

by cmchsmjm • Thu 20 Aug 2015 17:25

Our fosse septique has to be 'SPANC'd before the 18th of December. I have just found the facture given to us by the previous owner it is not up to current regulations (it has a 2000L tank and not the 3000L minimum) My question is, how long might we be given to replace the fosse? We haven't had any p...

tax payments by direct debits

by cmchsmjm • Tue 21 Oct 2014 17:53

Hello good people of Pont Noir.....a question... Is it possible to pay ones taxes and water bills on a monthly basis through direct debit as we do in the UK for the council tax etc? We keep getting caught out and having a last minute panic to send our payment cheques out! Ideally we would like every...

We have had a house near Chatelus-Malvaleix for 5 years now and found the whole process of viewing/buying really fun and interesting! Our estate agent Sandrine (http://www.immo-creusois.fr/) was an amazing find and helped us a great deal and has remained friends to this day. We live in a very small ...

Broadband

by cmchsmjm • Mon 26 Aug 2013 22:09

We have now come to the end of our six week Summer holiday in the Creuse and are heading back to the race race once more...top of my list for next Summer is to try and have broadband installed at the house. A large part of my work can be done remotely and it has been a case of trial and error access...

It is a very dramatic change, perhaps a bit too dark but it's not the end of the world. Regardless of how it looks we all benefit from a wonderful site that is full of useful info and entertaining articles and it doesn't cost us a penny so thank you for all your efforts... ...if newspapers and books...
