Re: Pressure reducer

by adey • Thu 23 Aug 2012 22:16

Does anyone know if I can get a new diaphragm for the PRV (and where) as it decided to give up the ghost on Sunday afternoon as we were about to leave for the tunnel. I'm assuming the diaphragm has gone as there is water coming out of a little hole in the top where the adjustment screw is, and the w...

Kebabs

Has anyone tried the Antalya Kebab in Aubusson?.
I'm not a lover of pizza.
Recommendations (or not) of their menu gratefully received.

Thanks

Re: Wind Turbines, Windmolens, Eolienne in Creuse

by adey • Thu 17 May 2012 09:03

I'm afraid i cannot agree that wind turbines are 'green'. In this country they produce 'green' energy, However the cost, in pollution terms, to produce the generators is phenomenal. All this is doing is moving the pollution to another part of the world where we can't see it. Of course, we are meetin...

Re: What price is land fetching?

by adey • Thu 20 Oct 2011 23:23

I have been advised if you want to buy a piece of land it is best to offer to rent it.
The 'idea' to sell it to you is then the owners.
I have a friend who has just bought 800M2 near Dontreix for (I think) 150E using this method.

Re: Do you own or have an interest in classic cars?

by adey • Wed 06 Jul 2011 10:18

Goose,
I have a 1986 Audi UR quattro coupe which has been modified so I won't be able to get a cert of conformity.
Is it old enough to qualify for 'vehicle of collection' status?
Cheers

Re: Why Charolais ?

by adey • Sat 04 Jun 2011 10:31

I'm sorry oldbill, but you are completely wrong in your assessment of the wild and farmed haggis. The farmed haggis is much more palatable and being of the 4 legged variety rather than the two, makes for a much easier distribution at Sunday lunch. (the wings on wild haggis are hardly worth the effor...

Re: Is 24th June a special day

by adey • Fri 13 May 2011 10:34

We stopped in the B & B in Calais a few years ago.
As you say, it is not at the same level as Campanile, But it's better than sleeping in the car, which we have also done. Somewhere cheap to lay your head and have a croissant.
Go for it.

Re: Deterring foxes?

by adey • Sat 12 Feb 2011 23:26

I think its supposed to be male urine, as the foxes don't like the pheromones.
I usually take the necessary steps when I go out to lock them up at night.
So far so good.

Tax Fonciere

by adey • Fri 10 Sep 2010 18:17

I have recently received my Taxes Foncieres bill for 2010. It came to our UK address but doesn't state our French address. I have tried to find information on the impots website but "holiday" French doesn't really work! Does anyone know; i. Can I check I'm paying the bill for the correct property an...

We are next over 13th August.

Re: Game Birds

by adey • Sun 11 Jul 2010 15:34

With Ref to your post Dave, I'd hoped to be able to fence off a part of the woodland (2000 SqM) and breed pheasant for the table. Would I be able to put Chasse Interdite signs up and legally enforce them? The way your post reads it seems as if anyone could come onto my pasture an shoot the pigs?? :l...

Re: Plastic plumbing pipes and fittings

by adey • Sat 08 May 2010 15:34

Thanks everyone for the replies.
I think I'll give it a go, mainly for ease and speed of installation.
All the plumbing will be in one corner of the house in a duct through all 4 floors so a replumb, even in copper, would not be too intrusive.

Again thanks for your advice.

Plastic plumbing pipes and fittings

by adey • Fri 07 May 2010 23:16

Has anyone had any experience with the plastic pipes and push-fit fittings as detailed here?
I have used JG fittings in the uk,and quite liked them, but just wondered how the french version measures up.

Re: Boosting a mobile phone signal.

by adey • Sun 18 Apr 2010 16:20

What model of phone is it?
Some models have an external aerial connector so you can plug in an aerial from a car kit, mounted high up to pick up the signal. Something like this.
You will have to extend the cable to suit and will be tied 'no pun intended' to the house.

A gallery page would be great.
It doesn't even have to take up valuable server space if it is hosted on photobucket or any of the other free sites.

Re: Chestnut trees

by adey • Thu 25 Feb 2010 10:38

This was a major consideration for us when looking for property. We ended up with about 4.5 Hectares of woodland made up of half deciduous and a quarter coniferous. The other quarter is the remains of a coniferous field that has been harvested. We intend to replant this with douglas as a crop for ou...

Re: Recommendations appreciated--fitting woodburners

by adey • Sat 20 Feb 2010 18:43

Be careful if you are planning to install a flue pipe outside. We went for the cheaper (but still expensive)single wall stainless steel. This only lasted 4 years due to condensation forming inside as the flue cooled overnight in the cold,ie winter. Go for the insulated version and ensure it has a ca...
