If you go to Wok Asie in Montlucon for lunch, you can forget it if its after 1.30, as they seem to stop refilling the trays and everything looks a bit dried-up. Before that and it's the best in town. (Also, there aren't many places where you can get totally p*ssed for the price of the first drink!)

I think the problem is that a lot of us were buying properties a few years ago when it was all the rage and we all needed help from those who had gone before, as it were, but obviously as the attraction to live here has dwindled and us original frontiersmen/women have found our feet and made our own...

I understand you can no longer make retrospective claims in the UK but have to claim from CPAM while still in France. Is this correct? Also do you have to take all the paperwork with your EHIC card in person to Gueret or can it all be done by post? (In this case I suppose it can be sent from home).

This is a long tale, get yourself a glass of wine. Bought the house 10 yrs ago, according to the estate agent's blurb it was on tout a l'egout. It wasn't till the signing chez le notaire that we learned there wasn't actually mains drainage in the village yet but it was due very soon; we were led to ...

Sorry, Enzo, never got back to you. She (we) decided to sit it out for a few days and as I expected it settled down a bit, so eventually we just got by with painkillers and rest. The main worry was that she'd had a massive fracture of the foot a few years ago so it was hard to tell if she'd done any...

Thanks for that, Dave. Someone else suggested the Croix Blanche, but when I Googled it it appeared to have been downgraded and most services transferred to Gueret. I will try to check however.

Is there any form of A&E department near Aubusson? My wife has an ankle injury which we think needs xraying but don't want to go all the way to Gueret. We are near Auzances so possibly Montlucon may be nearer - can we just go on spec without seeing a GP first? (we are not resident so not registered ...

Can you update me on the numbers to contact the English speaking helpline from France and UK?

That's what I thought. The term "jobsworth" comes to mind (so do a few others which I can't quote here). Thanks, I'll keep trying.

I have had a ligne fixe for several years from Orange (formerly France Telecom).I get my internet service from another provider. The house is only used for a few months each year as I live in the UK. My Orange bills are sent to my UK address. I went into the Orange shop in Montlucon armed with Counci...

Some of my climbing roses seem to be affected by a disease where the new shoots are pale, mottled and pink(not the usual red of new shoots), some are distorted, and some flower buds abort before opening. Googling for this makes me wonder if this is rosette disease, a virus spread by a mite, which is...

No idea, but apparently the underground mains water supply near Pontaumur froze this winter. Don't know how deep that was, but I imagine it was thought to be safe enough when they put it in.
