Re: Dentist recommendations?

by TournesolKate • Thu 20 Feb 2014 15:34

Thank you Mike! I'll check him out.

I saw in la pages jaune there's a dentist in Ahun, has anyone been to him? If he's anything like the doctors here, I'll give him a miss!

Dentist recommendations?

by TournesolKate • Thu 20 Feb 2014 07:55

Haven't been on here in ages and it's all changed! Sorry in advance if I'm posting in the wrong forum. Can anybody recommend a dentist for me please, I live in Ahun. I don't need an English speaker. I've been putting it off years (bit of a phobia of dentists, massive phobia of needles) but I think n...

Gill, I am so sorry to read your sad story. I really hope your return to La Creuse won't be too sad.
I'm sure you have plenty of friends over here, but if you should need any language help, feel free to PM me. I am only in Ahun, so not far from you.
Good luck on your journey down.

Re: What do people feel about living in the Creuse?

by TournesolKate • Mon 26 Nov 2012 12:10

Jeanne, I'm starting to feel like you! My (French) partner and I moved here in 2008. I learnt French, got a full time job and together we bought and renovated a house which we've been living in since May. I'm now 4 months pregnant with our first child and I'm trying my hardest to find some antenatal...

Thanks, I already buy poitrine fumé when I need a bacon fix. It's not the same though.

Re: Where can I buy some dog bones?

by TournesolKate • Sat 13 Oct 2012 19:54

I occasionally buy raw marrow bones for my dog from Carrefour in Aubusson. They're not cheap though, so I don't get them often!

Re: English Bacon

by TournesolKate • Sun 07 Oct 2012 10:30

Thank you, that's good to know. They are a little far away for me, but I might be able to get to Boussac market one day. The problem is me and OH both work full time, so it depends on days off.
If anybody knows of anyone a bit nearer to Gueret or Aubusson, any info welcome!

Anybody know if you can get English bacon around here? Otherwise, does anybody know of a good equivalent?

Re: Fleas

by TournesolKate • Thu 12 Jul 2012 11:15

Have you tried flea collars? Frontline and similar products will kill the fleas, but only when they bite the animal, they don't stop the fleas from jumping on the animal in the first place. Whereas a decent flea collar should deter the fleas. I had a friend who had tried everything but a flea collar...

Re: Book recommendation

by TournesolKate • Mon 21 May 2012 11:43

I'm not totally against ereaders, I think they're an excellent idea, just not for me. I did do some research on ereaders when I was considering getting one. The Nook was only available in the US, Kindle (like I said) is available in France but with very few English titles. The Kobo looked to be the ...

Re: Book recommendation

by TournesolKate • Sun 20 May 2012 09:41

No, I don't think I could cope with that. I am technophobic! Books are for reading and computers are for computing. I did consider getting a Kindle a while ago, but there are very few English Kindle edition books on amazon.fr and you can only buy them on amazon.co.uk with an English bank account, wh...

Re: Tick Bite

by TournesolKate • Wed 09 May 2012 18:51

I had one on my hip a couple of years ago. I noticed it when I was in the shower in the morning and the hot water made it sting. I must have gotten it the previous day, when I was out walking the dogs. I got it off with one of those twisty things and cleaned the area thoroughly, it was a bit red and...

Re: What will you or do you miss most about UK

by TournesolKate • Sat 10 Mar 2012 17:44

I too miss Indian restaurants, I can cook a mean curry, but it's just not the same. Actually, takeaway services of any kind! I miss Curry, Chinese and Pizza being a mere phone call away. I also miss being able to call a taxi to take me home if I've had one too many on a night out. I know there are t...

Re: Moving abroad? Learn the lingo!

by TournesolKate • Fri 11 Nov 2011 18:35

Hahaha! Alldown, that's hilarious!
I'm always getting teased at work (in the English sense of the word!) I usually resort to "tu te fou de ma gueule!" to make them stop, which basically means "you're taking the p*** out of me!"

Yes, you don't want to mix up English pipes with French tuyeaux!

You don't need to say mille, just break it down to two numbers.
