Painting brickwork, internal & external eggshell

by laPetite • Thu 27 Oct 2011 19:39

Our recently purchased house is painted in crepi, with brickwork around doors and windows. The brickwork paint is peeling, and we need to renew. Has anyone any recommendations? Would prefer it not to be brilliant white. Also, we like the eggshell-type finish of indoor paintwork, also external (it mi...

Asbestos-backed lino removal

by laPetite • Sun 21 Aug 2011 12:56

We've just completed the acte de vente on a house in the Correze - just over the border, so hope I'm allowed to keep posting here! We knew from the diagnostic that there was some asbestos in the backing of lino in the kitchen and a small loo and bathroom. The kitchen floor is parquet, but the floorb...

Death of owner/seller after signing compromis de vente

by laPetite • Mon 04 Jul 2011 14:41

We recently signed the compromis de vente on a house on which the estate agent had power of attorney, as the elderly owner had Alzheimer's and no family, other than a nephew, who was happy for the sale to go ahead. I've contacted the estate agent as the date we had agreed for the acte de vente was 2...

Re: Logistics of move to France - advice please!

by laPetite • Wed 30 Mar 2011 11:37

Thanks for the responses up to now - all very useful. I've been given the contact for a storage place near Azerables, run by an English couple, if we do go down that route. I look regularly at 'Creuse News' and 'the Bugle' for rentals, and generally at websites, but if anyone has any contacts, pleas...

Logistics of move to France - advice please!

by laPetite • Tue 29 Mar 2011 13:21

I'd be grateful for any advice that anyone could offer us on our forthcoming move to France: Last year we put our house on the market to fund buying a house in France. The house sold after six weeks! Not for mega bucks I must say, as it needed loads doing to it, and we live in the North East of Engl...

Long term rental

by laPetite • Fri 17 Sep 2010 15:43

Dear all We have just been on a very brief house-hunting trip in Limousin, and have had a very exhausting time looking around the area around La Souterraine, looking in both Haute Vienne and La Creuse, to see if we liked the area! We do, but have decided that rather than taking the plunge and ending...

Re: English woodburning stove

by laPetite • Mon 24 May 2010 23:13

Thanks for this. We have had a rethink and realized the problems about the 30 year old ironwork as you say!

Hopefully, we'll end up with a house with its own stove, so fingers crossed.

thanks again

English woodburning stove

by laPetite • Sun 16 May 2010 20:55

I've read a couple of previous topics on this, but would still like to ask advice: we have a large woodburning stove (a Quebb - don't think they exist now) which we've had for about 30 years, but haven't used a great deal. It throws out the heat (can't remember the Kw)and are now in the process of s...

Thanks, Dave. As you can see, I've rediscovered this forum now that things are getting more serious, and will have a good look through the different topics. I know you're right about visiting and personal preferences, but am just trying to gather as much information as possible. Thanks once again La...

Info on Chatelus le Marcheix, Azerables(&Lussac les Eglises)

by laPetite • Sat 20 Feb 2010 23:17

Hi there! I'm quite new to this forum, so here goes . . . We're considering a move to France in 2011, and have decided that probably the Limousin is for us! Searching through estate agents' websites we like the look of one or two houses in villages shown. Does anyone have any useful information - an...
