Re: 'Unwanted' books - any suggestions?

by anne • Sat 06 Apr 2019 14:11

Thanks for your suggestion, Le-Dolly. A response to another suggestion on my post doesn’t seem to have gone up (my ineptitude). I did re-read the email where the said they’d sell on those that didn’t meet their criteria. I dropped them off just now, to a distinct lack of enthusiasm, despite the qual...

'Unwanted' books - any suggestions?

by anne • Thu 04 Apr 2019 10:07

Hello everyone. Having a massive clear out - prior to selling, sadly. Brexit, anno domini are just two factors. What to do with all these 'unwanted' books? The English library in La Souterraine will (understandably) take only books published in last 5 years. What to do with the others? Landfill seem...

Re: Travelling after Brexit

by anne • Thu 04 Apr 2019 10:00

Same here - all the prehistoric documentation ready for travel on 26 March. We came Newcastle-Amsterdam (partly a Brexit manoeuvre and partly because we live in Scotland now). We'll be returning Cherbourg/Poole. Extra expense and time, but who knew we'd still be in limbo at this point? grrrrr.

Re: A miserable magnolia

Thanks, Dave. I think you're right. I've hacked away at it. It will either be the cure, or be a quick death rather than the slow suicide it's committing. Cheers, Anne

A miserable magnolia

by anne • Sun 09 Oct 2016 15:44

Help needed, please…I can’t recall what the magnolia looked like when we bought the house about 8 years ago, but it’s never thrived. We’re only here from time to time, and not keen or creative gardeners so our efforts are mostly control and maintenance, but all I read says that magnolia pretty much ...

Bats in the roof - know anyone who can help?

by anne • Mon 19 Aug 2013 22:37

We have bats in the roof. Not a problem as such, and I know they're protected so we're stuck with them, but the poo is starting to smell a bit, and I'd really like to get something done about it. Can anyone recommend anyone? Thanks!

Hi Ed. Sorry to 'piggy back' on your question... don't know about that one, but have you seen the one a couple of doors up from Pausa Pizza in Gueret? Has that one ever opened? (We've only moved here recently).
Hope you get an answer - we'll visit either one!

Expert sought on employment/resident status & UK/Fr Tax

by anne • Tue 30 Aug 2011 17:41

We bought our house here near Gueret about 3 years ago, and we're now in the process of moving to France permanently, well, for 2 years anyway. Can you recommend anyone who can help us with the minefield of employment tax? The(USA-based) company I work for are fine with me living here, but I dread t...

What Annik said! Having had our house in the Creuse for only 2½ years now, not resident, but gradually finding ways to spend more time here, we love it. And your advice and friendship made the settling in all the easier. And now you’re gone. We’re inspired by your spirit of adventure. But it’s au re...

Re: Drawing towards the End of “Our Story”

Goose - don't you dare stop! You know very well that you and your story here on Pont Noir was one of the ingredients in bringing us here. (We get the keys to our house in le Magnenon nr St Vaury on the 29th of this month, having stayed with Goose and Terry on our second visit to Limousin. The third ...

Re: Today, I will be mainly talking about ... drains.

Hello there - how can I find the chap you recommended to inspect the fosse, please - at the house we've just had an offer accepted on. (You say he's listed on PN but I don't know where to look.) I'm very twitchy about this fosse business - because I've never had one, I suppose, to paraphrase from on...

Re: We slide into 2007!

I've loved reading all your articles - and the picture of your goslings upside down in the pond made us laugh out loud. (Actually, I've sent you a separate message asking for your opinion on Creuse v Haute Vienne, so I'm hoping you'll pick that up, and hoping you'll not find it an imposition.) Don't...
