Re: New Law 01.07.2012 - Breathalyser

by Ann-et-Steve • Sun 01 Jul 2012 11:48

Hi,

There are suppliers of these kits on ebay (UK), at approx. £5.00 for a box of 2, plus postage. They will also post to France. Try ebay.fr, there maybe some suppliers on that site.

Regards,

Steve.

Re: Any suggestions for a hotel or B&B in the Dreux area?

by Ann-et-Steve • Mon 15 Aug 2011 21:41

Hi TS, The Hotel-BB.com link that Brian suggested, I can recommend the one in Dreux. We have stayed there several times and have always been pleased with the accommodation. It over looks the market square, which has been nicely renovated. The market square covers an underground carpark. The car park...

Re: Petrol shortages?

by Ann-et-Steve • Mon 01 Nov 2010 12:22

We got back early Sunday morning and fortunately had no problems getting fuel(diesel), either going or returning. We just topped up 2 or 3 times on the way down and arrived with virtually a full tank. During the week we made trips into Gueret, and was able to top up without any problems. It was a bi...

Re: French Wildlife

Hi crendell, You seem to be living in a wildlife hot spot in Naillat! However, I am intrigued to hear about the "American Redwings nesting in your gable wall". I am no expert on USA ornithology, but I don't think there is such a species. I've not checked, but I would be surprised if there are many b...

Re: The grues are back!

by Ann-et-Steve • Sat 17 Oct 2009 15:12

We will be over for a week as from the 24th October, hope there will be a few Grues still migrating south while we are there.

Perhaps you Grue spotters could put your observations to good use by visiting www.plantepassion.eu.

Steve.

Re: Piscines

by Ann-et-Steve • Sun 28 Jun 2009 18:13

Hi Maria2009, You don't say where you are in La Creuse, but from the RN145 at Gueret, take the exit showing the Z.I. Nord, The "D" road to Anzeme, or the Decheterie - it's all the same road. After a couple of 100 yds on the "D" road you will see a sign for "Piscines", on the R/H/S. It is before the ...

Hi Sallyd, Thanks for the information about the Black Woodpeckers, if we have an opportunity to visit that area we will keep our eyes and hears open for them. Just had a txt from our French neighbours informing us that the first of the Swallows have arrived, along with a few Black Redstarts. Cannot ...

Whilst on the Gueret to Anzeme road, on Tuesday 17th Feb., we saw a flock of about 30 grues, slowly heading N.E. It must be a good sign!

Re: Les Oiseaux dans la Creuse

Hi TournesolKate, The male Bullfinch is a great looking bird, and they do love the new buds on trees. But their favourite is the new flower buds on friut trees, so they are not popular with friut tree growers. Regarding the Woodpeckers mentioned, it's worth checking the Great Spotted against the Mid...

Hi Lynn, Just to help with, or confuse more, with the identification of Marsh Tit/Willow Tit, may I add the following:- Marsh Tit:- has the GLOSSY black crown, smaller black bib, uniform coloured wings and square ended tail. Willow Tit:- has the DULL/SOOTY black crown, larger black bib, whitish edge...

by Ann-et-Steve • Tue 23 Sep 2008 12:22

Hi Mike, When our chillie plants reach the end of the growing season, which could be very soon considering the weather, we harvest all the chillies. Some of the green ones do turn red, others remain green, but both colours taste great!. The surplus that we cannot use short term, we use a needle and ...

Re: Second World War - should it ever be mentioned?

by Ann-et-Steve • Tue 22 Jul 2008 16:46

Hi beetle, Just to pick up on your mention of Oradour-sur-Glane, there have been several books written about this terrible massacre, one of which I've read - I think it was 'Massacre at Oradour', by Robin Mackness. It's a gripping story, the gist being that a group of German soldiers had been lootin...

Re: Restaurants in Creuse

by Ann-et-Steve • Fri 18 Jul 2008 15:32

Just to endorse Goose's comments about La belle Epoque. The restaurant is in a beautiful old building, it looks like a late 1800's municipal office HQ, and the restoration work is excellent. The food and staff/service are very good. In addition to the "plate du jour", there is also a "plate du soir"...

Re: Travelling to the Creuse

by Ann-et-Steve • Fri 13 Jun 2008 23:17

Hi,

I could be wrong about this, but I understand that there is a 'promotional' price for the new rail service from Paris to the Creuse, say to La Souterraine, of 22 euros. I think that the 'promotion' is for 3 years.
