Re: What have you learnt?

According to a local, the difference can be determined by the profile of the ribs - flatter for a rabbit and rounder for a cat - but I don't know how true this is; it certainly makes for an interesting discussion, not least as to why this knowledge is important...

Re: Any changes to sat TV reception

by thetransporter • Tue 06 Aug 2013 14:31

We left ours unplugged during a 2 week break in the winter, only to find the 'head' had frozen and damaged on our return - we subsequently leave the box plugged in now, as I was informed by the repair man that this sends a small current to the head on a constant basis and this helps to prevent frost...

Re: Bed bugs

by thetransporter • Tue 02 Oct 2012 15:37

Some friends of ours in England used to put their (cleaned) bedding in black bin liners & place them in the freezer for 48 hours to kill fleas and other mites that they had problems with - hot washes and sprays hadn't worked for them - but the freezing technique did the trick ! Perhaps not the best ...

Re: Paying for district nurse

by thetransporter • Thu 20 Sep 2012 21:34

Ask your district nurse, or indeed any healthcare professional - including your local pharmacist - they will be able to help you. The service has undergone a lot of changes as recently as the 1st September, appertaining to payments & reimbursement procedures , (with many more planned) so I am unwill...

Not seen a hoopoe, much to my dismay - We haved lived here several years now, and never seen one - my parents come and stay for a week every few years or so and always see them - they think we're surrounded by them. I was very disturbed to see what I think was a cormorant yesterday flying over the r...

I'm glad to hear that you don't think I have a problem - that's great news. I do understand how frustrating these infections can be, as I have had to re-format my son's laptop twice as a result of infections - dramatic steps, but after running all the scans there seemed to still be some 'odd' behavi...

Yes smilespwp I fully appreciate the warning of not clicking the link - thanks, but my question was more of whether clicking on the link was in itself dangerous, or whether clicking on links on the page that it sent me to would be required to become infected. The reason I am so concerned is that I s...

Am I missing something here? I understand that malware/spyware etc can be 'accidentally' downloaded, but don't you have to click on something on that site to enable the download - I wasn't aware that simply viewing a page could infect your computer... I do hope that is still the case, otherwise I ma...

Re: Frozen onions

by thetransporter • Sat 11 Feb 2012 20:23

Not sure if they will survive whole, but we chop our excess onions raw, unblanched (and peppers, mushrooms, carrots, etc) and have no trouble using them . Best used fried from frozen on a fairly high heat - but for stews etc can just be thrown in at the start of cooking. Freezing is all about water ...

Re: jetwash / power washer

Everyone (including Sarkozy) seems to use/understand the term "Karcher" - which is a brand name of such a product. Sarko's infamous quote was some reference to using a Karcher to clean the suburbs of Paris..."nettoyer au Kärcher" the NYT translated it as “Starting tomorrow, we are going to clean the...
