Re: Intruder in our dream house

by lavaufranche • Sun 31 Jan 2016 20:03

Welcome to the Creuse Sandra and Graham I think you have been very unlucky to have suffered a break in. Hopefully not too much has been damaged. We had a break in soon after we had bought some 11- 12 year's ago, and received a distress call from a Dutch neighbour. I can remember driving down to the ...

Re: deer, deer

by lavaufranche • Mon 19 May 2014 08:28

Thanks Creusebear, we were OK. But felt very sorry for the deer, and imagined deer coming out of the shadows for the rest of the journey to the port. I can imagine a herd of deer coming across the road to be frightening. It was better we were in a van, we know someone who wrote a car off near Bath i...

deer, deer

by lavaufranche • Sun 18 May 2014 15:29

Just a quick warning as May is a peak time for deer wandering on the roads, We hit a large red deer that jumped over the central crash barrier directly in front of us. We were travelling up to Dieppe (15 miles to go) in a hire van early Friday morning at 65mph - no chance to avoid the poor animal an...

Go careful out there

by lavaufranche • Mon 02 Dec 2013 13:50

Just a renminder that most of us face these dangers, and to be aware of such potential problems. Flashing your brake lights and leaving some distance between the next vehicle may have saved them. Thoughts are with the family. **************************************************************************...

Thank you Annik
I have put this on my list to do, the trail looks interesting and the countryside will be an added bonus.

Re: What will you or do you miss most about UK

by lavaufranche • Mon 29 Jul 2013 10:22

Yes Gill, Stephen died much too young, we thought of you and your journey back to the Creuse in July and hoped that you had managed OK. It is the friends I would miss in the UK, the good thing is that our French neighbours are helpful, and we have made new friends (Dutch, British and French). I am t...

Re: How good is your English grammar?

by lavaufranche • Thu 18 Apr 2013 18:30

13 out of 14, I suppose the clause analysis with Drone (nickname for our English teacher) was n't wasted. although I did n't see the point of it at the time.
Many thanks for the test

Re: Why choose Creuse to live in.

by lavaufranche • Sun 14 Apr 2013 14:52

A mixture of reasons, one of them is economic, we couldn't really afford the property we have in the Creuse if it were in the UK. My work was stressful 12 years ago when we decided to buy and the £ was also at a high against the euro. Therefore peaceful countryside and a farmhouse to renovate (over ...

Re: Arriving in June after a long, sad time

by lavaufranche • Sun 07 Apr 2013 16:59

Sorry to hear about your loss I do n't really know what to say, but my thoughts are with you. I can understand the apprehension of coming back to a place that you and Stephen enjoyed and have invested so much time and effort in. I hope the visit will give you strength at a dificult time. best wishes...

Re: Travelling to the Creuse

by lavaufranche • Sat 20 Oct 2012 16:09

Press release 18th Oct 2012 Euroferries announces the launch of it’s 2013 express cross channel service between Ramsgate and Boulogne to commence in February 2013. I know there has been some speculation in the past about the Ramsgate route. Hopefully, a new operator will provide more competition. Th...

Thanks Brian, very timely and informative, my opinion of malicious posters is not complimentary. These posts appear other forums in April. Typical introductions to the malicious malware link being:- 'what if you found', 'what do you think about', 'you can see' . To the sado who produces this malicio...

Re: What road route do you like best from / to the UK?

by lavaufranche • Fri 03 Feb 2012 10:08

Thanks Dave some useful information which I've added to my travel notes. I don't always look for the quickest route down as we pass some beautiful areas. We enjoyed a stop last November in Chartres at the IBIS (close to the Cathedral).

Re: What road route do you like best from / to the UK?

by lavaufranche • Thu 02 Feb 2012 12:49

I'm with the Rouen route but like to run along the North of the Seine before hitting the motorway - must be something to do with what happened one foggy morning in rush hour thinking I was joining the GB lane at the peage but it turned out to be CB!! - guess who didn't have a carte bancaire at the t...

Re: Ld Lines, Transmanche

by lavaufranche • Fri 30 Sep 2011 12:26

Thanks Tim I will look forward to the 60s discount. We miss good old Speed Ferries. We have a Dover -Dunkerque ferry booked for Nov. but with the LD Line Newhaven - Dieppe fare coming in at under £100 we may use them. I use travelling time to Rouen as a guideline (this assumes you do n't favour goin...

Ld Lines, Transmanche

by lavaufranche • Thu 29 Sep 2011 13:20

Not sure if this is the correct section to raise this topic. Have just found that http://www.tbreaks.com give 5% discount on the LD lines and TM fares.
Has anyone booked through them before? 5% seems a goodly sum for just using the website
