Re: A curious thing.

Perhaps I could offer to do a cash exchange with them - I'll give them £399 and they give me Euros 550!
Just see how big my smile would be!:D
How strange!!

Before coming over to the Creuse, I always scan the forecasts on the internet(as we have no TV or internet)and print off the one I like the best!

Remote Access

by Sallyd • Sat 27 Feb 2010 08:48

I'm trying to set up my pc and laptop to connecdt to my office at work from home and are having trouble downloading the active x program as I think my AVK/Norton are blocking me doing it. I've tried to enable the boxes in the security settings in I.E. tools etc but it still won't work. Does anyone h...

Re: French Road Tolls

by Sallyd • Sat 27 Feb 2010 08:39

We use the our english credit card all the time on the toll roads from Calais to the Limousin. I have a Nationwide credit card which we use, as it gives a good rate of exchange. Incidentally it's probably already been mentioned somewhere on this wonderful site, but the Nationwide Flex cash card is o...

Re: Aggressive dogs

by Sallyd • Tue 02 Feb 2010 14:19

Thanks everyone, I'm glad I'm not alone in being afraid - it does taint a relaxing walk, but fortunately I love to walk more than my fear of dogs (just about!)and I'm sure my husband would 'take the bite for me'!
Does anyone else in the Creuse walk - we rarely see anyone.

by Sallyd • Sat 23 Jan 2010 21:34

Another really interesting article - thank you for bringing the traditions and history of the Creuse alive. It's wonderful to be able to know more about the Creuse than just the obvious day to day living.

Re: Aggressive dogs

by Sallyd • Sat 23 Jan 2010 19:21

Thanks again for the advice. We tend to walk all over the Creuse and so don't get the opportunity to get used to a particular dog(s), let alone see an owner! I'll take your advice and keep up the appearance of confidence! I think the other cure is to get a dog of my own sometime. Love the walks in t...

Re: Aggressive dogs

by Sallyd • Sat 23 Jan 2010 14:16

Thanks both of you for your comments! The dogs we encounter are so un-used to people walking through their hamlets that they are merely defending their territory however they seem very proactive in doing so! We've tried various approaches, but not sure that I'd feel confident enough to crouch down! ...

Aggressive dogs

by Sallyd • Fri 22 Jan 2010 18:05

I'm probably going to sound really pathetic, but my husband and I are really keen walkers and our walks (or should I say my walks) are blighted by sometimes very aggressive loose dogs when walking through most hamlets. Does anyone have any idea how I should deal with them? I'm pretty scared of dogs ...

Re: :: A dish served lukewarm

Hi Jon I'm really sorry to hear of your awful problems! If they can con you, they can con anyone! I have some relatives in Shepton Mallet and I'll contact them and see what I can discover. Hopefully I'll be back to you with something positive. We went passed your house in early July and wondered how...

Re: Les Oiseaux dans la Creuse

The wonders of the Creuse eh? We were over for a couple of weeks recently and I saw the first swallow on 16th March, over the next couple of days there were lots of them, all twittering away happily. I too have seen the Redstarts and Chif Chaffs. The Etang de Landes (Lussat) is a really good place t...

Thank yOu Brian! I've printed off the blurb from the web site you gave and from a cursory glance, it looks to be very comprehensive.A little light bed-time reading! Re: La Creuse ... à pied

by Sallyd • Sun 08 Mar 2009 02:31

I also love this book, but find some of the phrases a little difficult to understand. We given up on a couple of the walks, due to getting lost, but generally they are wonderful. One of our favourites is the walk from Anzeme and the walk from the foret de chabriere is also lovely. We have very rarel...

Bracken

by Sallyd • Sat 07 Mar 2009 19:24

I'm hoping to be over in the Creuse, this time next week and want to try to tackle the huge amount of bracken we have in our one-day-to-be veg patch. Does anyone have any ideas of how to destroy it. I know there are chemicals, but I'm loath to go down that path. Any advice gratefully accepted. If ch...

Re: What a wonderful Day !

by Sallyd • Sat 28 Feb 2009 21:37

Hold that sunshine! Over on 14th March for a couple of weeks. A neighbour told us that the weather warms up from 19th March - perhaps a little earlier this year? We were in the Creuse a few years ago in March and experienced -6 degrees one morning and +24C later in the day! Would love to have seen t...

There's a singposted woods on the road near Chatelus le Marcheix where you can see Black Woodpeckers, I've seen the hole they have made in the trees but not the bird! A work in progress. There is also a bat and otter hide, well worth a visit. Last year we saw Swallows flying over the etang in our ham...
