Hi there, I'm coming over in November on a very short visit with a friend and so instead of driving we're coming by plane to Limoges airport. Does anyone have any recommendations for car hire? I've trawled the compare sites and the prices aren't bad but the collision damage waiver isn't great, exces...

I love the night, the quiet, the variety of birds. I love looking into the far distance and it's still green. I love the bread. I love looking and finding mushrooms and fungi that I've never seen before. I love that all sorts of people of no particular 'class' live in hamlets and villages. I love th...

Thanks everyone. We're in the UK at the mo but the estate agent who sold us the house is happy to help. And thanks for the warning too re tax increase. My worry is that the previous owner has done a lot of additional work and it's not been picked up yet.

Hi, We've just been sent x3 tax habitation forms to complete as the new owners of our house and I wonder if anyone can answer a few questions for me. I've translated the questions on the form, but can you tell me: 1. The form is in triplicate, each one for a different section of the land that we own...

Yep, I know what you mean. We've just returned from a couple of weeks too. Admittedly it did snow on our last day, but even that was lovely in it's weirdness.
What an amazing, gentle place La Creuse is. I miss it so much when I'm not there.

Thanks for the tips.
I'm hoping to plant in April and try to time another visit with a harvest. But expect it will be a year before the plants settle in and I get some fruit.

Hi there, I'm hoping to grow some soft fruits when I come over this summer. I'd like to try black currants, raspberries and gooseberries. I grow them at home here in the UK and I don't really take as good care of them as I should but they still fruit quite well, particularly the gooseberries. Has an...

You're correct....I was (perhaps incorrectly) extrapolating from one person's posted admiration of Mr.Putin. I guess I'm so bummed by Trump that I over-reacted.I think that's understandable given the circumstances.

As it turns out both the notair and immobilier who sold us the house say that as we didn't own the house on the 1st of January, we don't pay until 2017. I hope they're right!

Hi, When we bought our house in February this year we paid 11 months Taxe d'habitation. We haven't yet received a bill for this year or for Tax Foncier. I now have the horrible feeling that we should have registered somewhere, but because we paid the first bill on signing for the house, I thought we...

I thought I wanted somewhere more isolated too, as it is my neighbours are the life force of our little hamlet, have made us feel entirely welcome and have made our French living experience amazing.
Some compromises might be worth making.

Hi there, When we removed the lino from our landing, the floorboards below were and still are, covered in a white powdery filler/plaster. We've cleaned much of it off, but the stuff just won't go away and is stuck in the grain. I guess it was a leveller before the lino went down or something to fill...
