How many of you had a structural survey before buying?

How many people had a structural survey, or equivalent, done before buying their house? The house we have an offer on appears to be solid, is granite built in the '50's, doesn't appear damp and looks good to me, but then I know little about buildings.

Any thoughts welcome.

Thanks

Sally
