Hi Creusebear I love Moroccan Tagines and Couscous dishes. There is a great book of North African and Middle Eastern dishes called Arabesque by Claudia Roden. Lamb and Pears, Chicken and Dates are deliciously sweet and savoury. The book also features other interesting North African cuisine. https://...

I will continue to watch the news and read everything written about Brexit, a real roller coaster!! I have always worked towards retiring to France, getting our house in the Creuse ready. Spending thousands on renovations. I keep hoping for the best. I am now resigned to having to apply for a Visa e...

We had the same problem a few years ago but since the roof has been replaced they are obviously homeless with no way back in, Hopefully! as it is a bit scary to have a bat flying around the bedroom in the middle of the night.

Congratulations!! I am sure you will be very happy in the Creuse. We are currently only part time but hope to retire here "Brexit permitting" in around 3 years, we love it here. We can't help with the changeover but I am sure a member who is close by would welcome a small job. Enjoy your new home :-...

There are lots of lakes near us and we swim in Etang de Meouze during the summer. There is a little sandy beach, playground, volleyball and a restaurant. I took a Dingy out which was good fun. Last year however it was closed to swimming due to algae. A problem that has affected a number of lakes in ...

Hi Virtdave Sorry to hear your story and hope it does not stop you visiting the Creuse in the future. We are planning to retire to the Creuse from the UK 2 years after the Brexit deal concludes. Our plans were made when buying the house and spending thousands on renovation that we would eventually m...

Hi Sally I would take advice as we completed our form accurately including measurements, number of doors and windows, new electrics, septic tank, pointing, new roof and the bill doubled in 1 year. I think the previous elderly French owner had not provided updates since the house was just habitable. ...

Hi The actual telephone line to a neighbours house has fallen from the wooden post and is lying in the bushes in our garden. I have reported the problem 3 times now using the online reporting page at Orange. I have even uploaded a couple of photos. So far the line is still down. The phone is still w...

Hi LeHobbit We have had a holiday home just outside Magnat L'Etrange for the past 12 years and had similar concerns about the base at La Courtine when we were buying and noticed on the map the military base. You can here occasional bombs going off in the distance and the sound of gun fire but it is ...

I have used La Coterie (builders, septic tank etc...) over the years. Recently I have have been unable to contact them and I have noticed that they are no longer advertising in the Bugle. Does anyone have any news? Have they stopped trading?

Hi Paul and Jackie We live in the area you are looking in. We are just outside Magnat l'Etrange in a small hamlet. We absolutely love where we live because of the landscape which is more rugged than the North Creuse. There are many houses that have been empty for years, but as you say may not be off...

Angela and Paul Wishing you both great happiness on your move to the Creuse. We currently have a holiday home for the last 12 years and plan to retire to the Creuse in the next 5 years. We have noticed no change in attitudes of the locals in our hamlet following Brexit. We have spent a lot of money ...
