Re: Car Hire

I've always found Europcar the cheapest. Just don't go for Ryanair's "recommended partner" - the queues are horrendous unless you are first off the plane/have sharp elbows.

Swallows

by critch • Mon 28 Mar 2016 17:13

Just seen first swallow of the year, north of Bonnat. Very early this year. 2015 was 12 April, 2014 13 April, and 2013 30 April.

I presume this reflects on the mildness of the winter past, rather than telling us anything about the summer to come.

Thanks for the links. Good to know that it doesn't have to be an expensive "business" account...

Auto entrepreneur bank accounts

by critch • Wed 28 Jan 2015 19:42

I have been sent a link from a Facebook page saying that as of January 2015 all auto entrepreneurs need a separate business bank account. Am I just coming very late to the party, or is this news to anyone else as well?

Re: Etiquette over gifts

A couple of complete strangers crashed a party we were giving last year (turned out we did have a friend in common who had invited them) bearing a very large lily. To which I said "Il ne fallait pas.." etc, but they shrugged aggressively and said "C'est normal!"
Try that.

birds and spring

by critch • Mon 14 Apr 2014 17:22

Not that I have an OCD which makes me note these things down, but first hearings/sighting of cuckoos and swallows have both been exactly twenty days (three weeks in old money) earlier this year than in 2013.

Re: demijohns

What a brilliant idea, and so simple. Thank you. I was already being teased by the hamlet cos of the vin en vrac at the mechoui that said it was "eau demineralisee", and this is the obvious way forward. Onwards to damson wine.

demijohns

by critch • Mon 09 Sep 2013 16:47

Does anyone know where I can buy demijohns, for winemaking? Mine are all full, and I could do with some extras for racking (plus the damsons are about ready to pick). I was sure I had seen some somewhere, but have drawn blank in Intermarche and most brico places. There are some huge flasks around co...

Wow, that must have been a labour of love! And it also explains "Les Devants de la Grande Sagne". Many thanks for the info, I do like good list.

Re: auto-entrepreneur

by critch • Mon 01 Jul 2013 13:24

I have a similar question, having recently registered as an auto-entrepreneur, I get letters from a company saying I have to adhere to a "regime de retraite cadres et non-cadres", even if I don't have any employees - in which case I won't be asked for any cotisation. Is this really so?

what is a "Breuil"?

by critch • Sun 30 Jun 2013 23:15

There are numerous places around me called "Le Breuil", there is a zi du Croix de Breuil on the way to Limoges, I have also seen sign for "le Breuil de Chene", so it is clearly something, though not in my dictionary. I asked my neighbour, but he is an incomer from the south, and after some reflectio...

Registering a classic car. Well alright, a Green Goddess

by critch • Tue 16 Apr 2013 21:22

Does anyone have any info/experience of importing and registering a Very Old Vehicle? I was wondering about bringing over a Green Goddess, for irrigation/water transport purposes. And as a toy, I suppose. Very well serviced, so CT should be no problem, but what could be done about a Certificate of C...

I can recommend Champlong Chatterie (they have a website), but they may be a little far for you, near La Souterraine
