Re: Where's the nearest A&E?

by Pamski • Mon 28 Apr 2014 09:53

We used the xray facility at la Croix Blanche last summer, after a referral from a local GP, even though we're not registered. It was pretty quick, though not an emergency.

Chipped windscreen

by Pamski • Thu 24 Apr 2014 09:10

Does anyone know where we can get a stone chip in our windscreen repaired? We are east of Aubusson.

Re: Strange Plant

It's purple toothwort. We found some last year and tracked it down. It grows in association with alders, near water usually. Fabulous plant!

Re: Wasp and hornet issue

by Pamski • Mon 30 Sep 2013 12:23

No solutions from me, I'm afraid, but a piece of info, just in case - hornets fly at night and, like moths, are attracted by light. I know this because four of them came into our living room last year, attracted by a sliver of light under the door - now covered up! Good luck. It sounds awful.

Re: Finding ingredients

When you're next in Pontaumur, try the Bio shop on the main street. I don't know if they have exactly what you're looking for but they are very well stocked with things I haven't seen elsewhere.

Nope - only if I go halfway down the garden! Good idea to ask the neighbours! Thanks

Loss of mobile signal

by Pamski • Tue 02 Jul 2013 10:05

Can anyone explain why I now have no mobile signal, when there's been a perfectly good one here for years? We're between Flayat and Meouze, if that helps.

Re: What road route do you like best from / to the UK?

by Pamski • Wed 15 May 2013 16:14

We don't do the Paris route, so forgive me if this is included in the poll, but does one of those routes include the new tunnel west of Paris? Has anyone tried it and if so, what did you think?

Re: Planting stuff outside: OK or not?

by Pamski • Wed 15 May 2013 15:50

Having been caught out several times by late frosts, we now just watch what our neighbours do. When Eliane puts out her geraniums, then we reckon it's OK! (Seriously though, it does depend on altitude too. We're 750m up here and get frosts when lower places are fine).

TV Licence

Does anyone know if it's necessary to pay for a French TV Licence via the Taxe D'habitiation if you are only set up via a satellite dish to receive British TV?

Re: Farmyard Manure

by Pamski • Tue 23 Oct 2012 23:35

Thanks for the suggestions. We had already agreed that money would change hands - our farmer friend was quite happy with that. In the end we gave him 20 euros and a bottle of home-made sloe gin. He seemed pretty happy!

Farmyard Manure

by Pamski • Thu 18 Oct 2012 16:24

Does anyone have any idea what we should pay our farmer neighbour for some well rotted farmyard manure? He let us barrow 30+ loads down to our veg plot but neither of us has any idea what a good price to pay would be.

Re: Bed bugs

by Pamski • Thu 11 Oct 2012 17:17

If they are bed bugs you will see them - they're flat and brownish and hide along the mattress seams during the day. We picked some up several years ago from the Campanile hotel at Chateauroux on our way home and it ended up costing a fortune before we finally got rid of them. We had to buy a new ma...
